My jewel “Per Molts d’Anys” (For Many Years Ahead), was chosen to represent Menorca in the World Food Gift Challenge 2023, a contest organized by l’ICGAT, which rewards the best handmade gifts related to local tradition and gastronomy (“Food-related craft gifts”). Regions that have been, those that currently are and the ones that will be gastronomic regions, can take part in this competition. Menorca was gastronomic region in 2022. This year the comptition in our island was organized and promoted by Associació Leader Menorca.

My proposal this time is a silver spoon (which can be worn on the body as an ornament; on an apron or a chef’s jacket, as a tie pin or as a pendant, and which can also be used as a book mark), tied with a red ribbon to a green reed that is part of the packaging. Is is inspired by the gift given to horse riders that have taken part in Menorcan fiestas. The spoon began to be given to riders to wish that there would be no shortage of food in their homes. The green reed was given as a wish for long life. Today, and in the context of a kitchen, those would be wishes that the cooks never lack good raw materials and imagination to make new creations and that they can continue to do so,… For Many Years Ahead!

The contest took place in the Greek island of Kos and was organizes by the South Aegean Gastronomic Region 2019. The Menorca Promotion Tourism Foundation gave the oportunity to some of the local producers to attend to it. The trip turned to be a great experience: we were able to represent Menorca and our artisans, we enjoyed a great welcome, we had the privilege of getting to knnow the culture and history of the island, visiting local producers, getting to know their products and gastronomy and to share experiences and reflections. And in addition, my proposal was recognized with the award for the best contemporary interpretation of traditional craft, an award that makes a lot of sense to me: I always try to look for this contemporary vision of crafs.
